SARATOGA WYOMING ENGAGEMENT | Jen & Sean – Brush Creek Ranch

Rick and I absolutely love it when people travel to Wyoming for their engagement sessions. There is just something so special about what we have here and Jen & Sean’s Saratoga Wyoming engagement photos show it so well. Wide open country, golden rod sagebrush, wild horses and 5 star luxury ranches, their session had it all. If you aren’t familiar with Saratoga Wyoming but maybe know where this Lake Marie Elopement took place, you drive another 30 miles or so on Highway 130 and voila!

It is such an interesting process when we receive an inquiry from out of state. We speak on the phone, correspond via email and really try to build as much of a connection as we can. We wanted to know all about these two and were thrilled to hear they had chosen to photograph their session at one of the most breathtaking properties in all of Wyoming, Brush Creek Ranch. We had so much fun playing horseshoes, exploring the amazing open country and even paying a visit to the location they chose for their reception and accommodations.

These two really let their guard down and let us in on exactly who they are as a couple. A little bit city, a lot of bit playful, photographing them was so easy. These two were so very obviously head over heels in love with each other and we hope their photos show it.

Jen and Sean decided to have their Saratoga Wyoming engagement session photographed at their wedding venue, Brush Creek Ranch. These two made a whole trip out of it, traveling across the country by Van. We met up with these two to explore the grounds and see what fantastic backgrounds the ranch had to offer. We didn’t have to go far as you can see the property itself is gorgeous, the surroundings even more so.

These two are playful, spontaneous and really a lot of fun. Sean really wanted that side of their personalities to be highlighted during their Saratoga Wyoming engagement session. So we opted to include a few games and let these two challenge one another to a friendly competition. We just love the documentary style images of this sweet couple just doing their thing and not even worrying about the cameras!

Who says engagement sessions should only consist of portraits? Rick shares with clients all the time that our main job as photographers is to make our subjects feel comfortable. When people feel comfortable in front of our lens, it leads to photography that is true to life who they really are. These two totally became lost in the game (and in each other) which made photographing them so easy!

For those of you who have not been out to Brush Creek Ranch, there is a main property as well as many sub property areas. Jen & Sean were planning their wedding at The Magee Homestead. It is a all inclusive guest ranch that has the look of a 5 star luxury resort, but feels like a quaint and private homestead. As the only people there on the homestead that day we had the ability to photograph anywhere. For Jen and Sean this was not only great to have their Saratoga Wyoming engagement photos taken in this space but also great to reacquaint themselves with what it looked like to get their minds thinking about how to decorate and best use the space on their wedding day.

Jen has a beautiful affection for animals. Sean joked on the day of that she was like a real life Dr. Doolittle. She was absolutely thrilled to see horses there on the property and we of course had to stop for her to say hello. After seeing the way the horses just decided to be Jen’s very best friends we can now totally see what Sean was talking about. These two looked right at home and we were sure to capture this interaction with a few photos.

Can we just talk about how adorably happy Jen is here? She is ‘I just got to pet wild horses in WYOMING’ kind of happy and we loved every second of it!

Sean has impeccable taste (which is why he totally picked Jen). Many people think when it comes to engagement rings you have a few choices: a classic solitaire or something with a bit more blind. Love how Sean chose to keep the stunning simplicity of a solitaire but also added in a sparkly diamond band for the extra wow factor. Jen’s ring was BEAUTIFUL to say the very least.

One of the coolest thing about the location these two chose for their Saratoga Wyoming engagement photos is its 30,000 acres of private WY wilderness. We were able to find streams, lush wooded areas and many beautiful rock outcroppings. We loved really getting to explore with these two and just happen to be also documenting them little by little.

What a gentleman! Jen was all dressed up for their session which made climbing a bit harder. These two were totally game for anything though and make the trek up without any complaints. We were able to get them some really cool photos so in the end it was totally worth it!

During an engagement session we often put our couples into a light pose then encourage them to interact with one another. One of our tricks is to leave them in this pose and delay actually taking any photos until they have settled into the pose and forgotten about the camera entirely. People in love are most often lost in each other and captivated in the moment, Jen and Sean totally proved this to be true. They were able to so easily forget that we were together for their Saratoga Wyoming engagement session and instead looked like they were just out for a romantic getaway in the country.

One of the signature looks we have in Wyoming is sagebrush. Whether it is a vibrant green or in this case a gorgeous golden rod yellow, it isn’t something you find in a lot of places. Loved that these two were up for anything, including carrying Jen through the Wyoming sagebrush.
